I /HATE/ taxes! With a passion, I hate them. I just learned today that because I didn't claim my tax deduction for my school loan interest paid, I not only overpaid my taxes, but I probably wouldn't have had to pay for penalties! I had to pay in around $1,300 to the Federal government last year, plus a $70 or $80 tax penalty for not sending in enough money before 12/31/2000. When you subtract the $1204*0.8 from my taxable income, I'm certain my total taxes will be less than $1000, the cutoff for tax penalties. IOW, the federal government OWES ME MONEY! Now, on top of that, I'd have less to pay in to State taxes as well. The state government OWES ME MONEY! Oh, sure I could probably save myself a few headaches and just overlook it, but that money could easily be applied to the principal of my school loans! I can't pass up $300+ just because I don't want to do a little bean counting! GRR! And I shouldn't have to do this! Anyway, I'll let you all know what the final outcome is, since I ranted about it here. Take it easy! ^chewie
