Well, this weekend was very nice, but since I was able to spend time with my girlfriend, that was a given. Friday night, Meghan and I had pizza and watched a movie while I washed beer bottles. We decided it was a little late, so we put off bottling the honey porter until the following day. While the dishwasher hummed away, disinfecting the Budweiser returnables -- at $1.20/case, why not -- I forced her to watch "Hudson Hawk". In my honest opinion, "Hudson Hawk" isn't nearly as bad as everyone claims, but I have a biased, cult-follower opinion of the movie. Needless to say, I'm a bit of an odd-ball when it comes right down to it. Saturday went smoothly. We've developed a little system for bottling beer. Meghan mans the bottle siphon while I cap and pack. It's actually quite fun to do. I'm not sure how this batch will turn out. It tasted a bit strong of syrup still, even though the estimated alcohol content was a little over 5%. I'm thinking that it'll push 6% after fermenting in the bottle for a couple weeks, and hopefully the yeast will have time to clean up the "syrupy" taste of the beer a bit. The honey porter kit was actually a little expensive, at around $30. There are three different malts, honey, and two different hops to the recipe, the latter of which I only used one. Still, that's about $15/case of beer -- if it turns out. Not a bad price, and since I'm doing this more for the fun of it, well worth the effort. Meghan's parents returned from Mexico on Saturday night, so after a drink and dinner at Chang Mi Thai in Uptown, we set out to Arden Hills for a visit. They didn't look too tired from the 3 weeks of sandy beaches and warm weather, so we chatted into the wee hours of the morning. Today was a pretty normal day. I cooked Meghan breakfast and set about being lazy, playing guitar and snuggling. We watched "Super Troopers" at the Roseville theater for a matinee. One word of advise, don't spend the full $7.50+ to see this prime time. It's not worth it. It is funny, but not that funny. Anyway, it's late and I need to get up early to catch the bus tomorrow. Writing, scripting, and technical support will greet me tomorrow. Can't you just feel my enthusiasm?
