Ah, the Renaissance Festival. Much fun can be had at the RennFest, by both the patron and the entertainers. This is my second year as a shop slave for McGregor Historic Games, a.k.a. Rose and Pentagram Designs (http://www.historicgames.com). Having a crew of intelligent, funny, and nice people certainly helps. So, what do I do at the RennFest, at McGregor , and what is McGregor Historic Games for that matter? McGregor Games is a shop that sells a variety of hand-crafted, recreated historical games of our past. You've heard of chess, but have you heard of Hnefatafl or Fitchneal? How about Twelve Man Morris or Ringo? Did you know there are hundreds of variations of backgammon, 30 of them researched and documented with the game instructions by the store proprietor and craftsman Charles Knudson. There is simply a lot of fun found at the booth, and it's a great break away from the daily technically-focused world I live in. Simple games, complex games, but all "in the flesh"; analog. You really can't beat it. The RennFest is a great place to be, too, but if it weren't for Charles and Beth and their wonderful shop, it wouldn't nearly be as special. Stop in if you have a chance. On another note, completely unrelated to the Renn Fest. I've got to stop by and pick up some primer paint and a new shade of yellow to paint the kitchen after work tonight. My previous pick proved to be quite bold, and well, awful. Meghan did a wonderful job painting the kitchen, but I can't imagine the torture to her eyes and heart as she did it. I know she truely loves me for the anguish she went through while putting it on the walls. ;-p Anyway, back to the grind. Take it easy! ^chewie
