Greetings! Welcome to what I consider my professional home pages. In the following pages, I will introduce you to my career goals, give you a resume or two and a skills assessment sheet. I hope you find this information valuable.
Although I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biochemistry, my career choices have led me down the path of Systems Engineering and Software Development. The perfect job for me would combine Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with Computer Science.
I am a firm believer in test-driven development, having recently become "addicted" to it. There are few methodologies that provide instant feedback as to the success, failure, and progression of a product than test-driven and agile development models. The "perfect job" would be one open to this type of development model.
The perfect company is one that encourages the involvement of its employees on all levels of software development. Too often a niche develops around smaller groups of the staff. The System Architects have difficulty taking system or application design improvements from "code monkeys", or sales and marketing pushes a service or application into production before its time. Communication is the key, and a company that can communicate internally will have much better chances of communicating externally.
I am a dedicated fan of Open Source software. As an Official Debian GNU/Linux Developer and a member of the Free Software Foundation development team, maintaining GNU GNATS, I dedicate some of my personal time to advancing the quality of these Open Source projects. The "perfect job" at the "perfect company" would be one that recognizes my personal time as being separate from my work time. I do not require that the products I develop at work have anything to do with Open Source software, but I would be honored to be a member on a company that does participate in the Open Source community.
I am currently employed as a UNIX Systems Engineer for Onvoy, Inc. and enjoy the work there very much. Family life keeps me busy, so I'm generally unavailable for consulting. I can make exceptions on a part-time basis.
If you are that "perfect company" with the "perfect job", please feel free to drop me an email. Systems Administration/Management is not my preferred choice in careers, it is simply butters my bread -- pays the bills.
The following list of links will bring you to a couple resumes and a skills assessment sheet.
The "(signature)" links you find in this document, are digital signatures created with GnuPG (http://www.gnupg.org), an OpenPGP-compliant RSA/DSA cryptography application. My public key is available on most public key servers. To verify that these pages are indeed mine, use your browser's "Save as..." option to save the HTML and ASC files to disc. Then use the appropriate PGP or GnuPG applications to verify each file. This page is signed (here).
I realize that my personal home pages are just a few clicks away. Be that as it may, please keep in mind to reference those pages out of context from the ones you read now. I would much rather give you a personal impression at an interview where full context and meaning can be derived from body language and speech rather than from a few lines on an internet home page.
If you're a headhunter interested in distributing my resume and skills assessment sheet to potential employers, you may do so only under explicit permission from me for each instance. NO EXCEPTIONS. I really don't want to be dropped as a potential candidate at a business because two headhunters placed my resume at the same place. You may contact me through email at chewie@wookimus.net. Thank you for your interest and understanding.
